Faculty Comments

“Yubi Lojewski excels in both formal and informal settings. Formally, she works as a Social Justice Peer Educator. Informally, she takes fullest advantage of her coursework, asking hard but necessary questions and offering thoughtful insights. A world filled with people like Yubi Lojewski would be a world with no worries about racism and other injustices.” –Professor John Streamas

“Yubi is smart, thoughtful, and creative and she represents the type of student professors hope to teach every semester. Yubi always found ways to push my own thinking and that of her classmates. Courageous and thoughtful, she is already a teacher, someone who respects, listens to, and empowers others all while embracing her own education. She represents what Ethnic Studies has always been: a place of important conversation about race and social justice, where knowledge is leveraged in ways to facilitate change. A fantastic student.” –Professor David Leonard

Personal Statement

As my time at WSU Pullman winds down, I want to make some final acknowledgments and reflect on my four years on the Palouse. First, I want to thank the CES program and the numerous professors I have had the chance to engage with intellectually. My understanding of social inequities has grown exponentially and has prepared me to establish social justice practices within my career path. Second, I want to express my deepest gratitude and love for the Black Student Union and the African American Student Center. I truly found a home, friends for a lifetime, and memories I will never forget. Finally, I want to recognize my family. I would not have been able to survive WSU if I could not call you 10 times a day.”

Future Plans

Next for Yubi is a position as a Youth Program Specialist for Evergreen Good Will. Over the next five years she plans to purchase a condo and find more passion projects.
