Elly Sweet, clinical assistant professor and faculty advisor for biology, general studies/biological sciences, and pre-health, biological sciences, WSU Tri-Cities, received the WSU Crimson Spirit Award.
Daniel Liera-Huchim, office assistant, foreign languages and cultures, was awarded the United Greek Council’s Chapter Advisor of the Year award at the 2017 Arete Awards presented by WSU’s Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Trevor Omoto (PhD ’17) and Nathalie Wall, associate professor, chemistry, coauthored “Evaluation of Vanadium(IV) as a Non-radioactive Surrogate for Technetium(IV) by Comparison of Stability Constants for Polyamino Polycarboxylate Ligand Complexation” in Journal of Solution Chemistry.
Nathalie Wall also coauthored with Gannon Parker, post-doctoral researcher, and Donald Wall, director, WSU Nuclear Science Center, and others “Synthesis and Crystal Structures of Volatile Neptunium(IV) β-Diketonates” in Inorganic Chemistry; and with Mitchell Friend, graduate student, she presented “Complexation Thermodynamics of Oxalate with Hf(IV) for Application to Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing” at the American Nuclear Society Winter Meeting in Washington D.C.
Aaron Whelchel, instructor and academic advisor, history, WSU Vancouver, was recognized as a WSU Provost’s Featured Faculty Member at the Oct. 21 Cougar football game against University of Colorado.
Tom Busch, fiscal analyst, physics and astronomy, received the WSU Crimson Spirit Award for October 2017.
Andrew Gillreath-Brown, graduate research assistant, and R. Kyle Bocinsky, PhD ’14, anthropology, co-edited “Empirical and Model-based Agricultural Studies in Archaeology,” a special section in Journal of Ethnobiology, and coauthored “A Dialogue Between Empirical and Model-Based Agricultural Studies in Archaeology” in that section. Bocinsky also authored “Comparing Maize Paleoproduction Models with Experimental Data” in the same section.
Stephen Powers, postdoctoral research associate, environment, received the Gene E. Likens Award from the Ecological Society of America for outstanding publication by a junior scientist in the biogeosciences in recognition of his paper “Long-term accumulation and transport of anthropogenic phosphorus in three river basins” in Nature Geoscience.
Douglas Juneau, academic advisor, sociology, won a regional Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Advising – Advisor Primary Role from NACADA, the global community for academic advising.
Jana Argersinger, publications editor, English, presented “Relational Aesthetics and the Author(s) of Rose Hawthorne Lathrop’s Memories of Hawthorne” at the American Literature Association conference in San Francisco, where she also presented and chaired the session “Poe and Nineteenth-Century Medicine,” to be developed into a special issue of Poe Studies: History, Theory, Interpretation, one of the journals hosted by the Department of English.
