Alair MacLean, associate professor, sociology, WSU Vancouver, was elected chair of the American Sociological Association section on Peace, War and Social Conflict. She presented several papers at the ASA and Society for the Study of Social Problems annual meetings in Seattle, including “Historical Changes in the Context and Impact of Military Service” and “Started from the Bottom: Globalization, Welfare, and Cross-National Variation in Poverty and Inequality.”

Doug Juneau, academic coordinator, sociology, and academic technology coordinator, dean’s office, received an “Outstanding Achievement in Academic Advising” award from the WSU chapter of the Academic Advising Association.
Monica Kirkpatrick Johnson, professor, sociology, was elected to membership in the Washington State Academy of Sciences.
Don Dillman, Regents professor, sociology, was named a national associate of the National Research Council, the operating arm of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, in recognition of his service to the academies. Dillman also recently received the American Sociological Association’s 2016 Lazarsfeld Award for a career of distinguished contributions to the field of sociological methodology.
