Kimberly Vincent, clinical associate professor, mathematics and statistics, was appointed by the Board of the Washington State Mathematics Council, state affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, as associate director of Region 1 in Northwest Washington.
Sue Peabody, professor, history, WSU Vancouver, received two additional prizes for her book Madeline’s Children: Family, Freedom, Secrets, and Lies In France’s Indian Ocean Colonies (Oxford University Press): the French Colonial Historical Society’s Mary Alice and Philip Boucher Prize for “the best book dealing with the French colonial experience from the 16th century to 1815”; and the Western Association of Women Historians’ Frances Richardson Keller-Sierra Prize for “the best monograph in the field of history published by a WAWH member.”
Jesse Spohnholz, associate professor, history, received two awards for his book, “The Convent of Wesel: The Event that Never was and the Invention of Tradition” (Cambridge University Press, 2017): the 2018 Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst and the German Studies Association’s DAA/GSA Book Prize for best book published in German history or the social sciences in the past two years; and the 2018 American Society of Church History’s Albert C. Outler Prize for the best book published in church history.
Ryan Booth, doctoral candidate, history, received the 2018 Western History Association Graduate Student Prize.
Tabitha Espina Velasco, graduate student, English, presented “Navigation and Negotiation in the Narratives of the Halo Halo Generation” at the 16th Islands of the World Conference 2018 (ISISA2018): The Changing Futures of Islands” in Leeuwarden and Terschelling, the Netherlands. There she was awarded her second ISISA student scholarship.
David Marcus, chair and professor, psychology, was named Group Psychologist of the Year by the American Psychological Association’s Society of Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy (Division 49). Marcus is a society fellow and current editor of its journal Group Dynamics: Theory, Research, and Practice.
Will Luers, instructor, Creative Media and Digital Culture/English, WSU Vancouver, is corecipient of a first place Robert Coover Award from the Electronic Literature Organization for Novelling.
Jennifer Sherman, associate professor, sociology, received the Rural Sociological Society’s Frederick H. Buttel Outstanding Scholarly Achievement Award for a Book, 2018, for her co-edited volume Rural Poverty in the United States (Columbia University Press).
Peter Chilson, professor, English, received Peace Corps Worldwide’s Best Travel Book award 2017 for his co-authored publication Writing Abroad: A Guide for Travelers (University of Chicago Press).
Kirk McAuley, associate professor, English, was awarded an American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies Keough-Naughton summer fellowship at the University of Notre Dame. He also presented his research on Robert Louis Stevenson at the Interdisciplinary Nineteenth-Century Studies Supernumerary Conference at the University of Roma Trė in Rome, Italy.
