Program Strengths

  • Faculty work in a number of new research areas, including feminist theory, queer theory, global feminisms, critical ethnic studies, and disability studies.
  • The program maintains close relations with the Women*s Center and the LGBTQ+ Center.
  • WGSS students tend to be people who want to make a difference in the world. Their personal goals and intellectual development are of major importance to our faculty.
  • The program emphasizes collaborative learning and critical thinking in a global and activist context, one that gives students ownership over their education.
  • WGSS students benefit from faculty mentoring to pursue opportunities in undergraduate research, publication, professional or graduate education, and career exploration.

Career Options

  • Change your world through social justice advocacy and leadership.
  • Work for nonprofit and/or nongovernmental agencies advocating for environmental justice, transgender rights, reproductive justice and access to health care.
  • Work in mutual aid collectives and community service organizations, such as shelters and youth centers.
  • Work in human resources, public policy analysis, community development.
  • Continue studies in law school, social work, justice studies, gender studies, and much more.

Admission to the Major Requirements

Students may be admitted as Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies majors upon declaring their intent to the program.
