PhD Student Achievement-Social Sciences

Purpose

Recognizes and honors doctorate students in the social science disciplines for outstanding academic performance, achievements in research, scholarly, and/or creative activity, and contributions or service to their academic unit, the college, and WSU.

Criteria

Outstanding academic performance, strong research, scholarly and/or creative productivity, interdisciplinary collaborations, service, and professional growth during graduate studies at WSU; actual or potential impact of relevant research, scholarly, and/or creative activities.

Specific Eligibility

Students must be enrolled in a PhD degree program offered by Department of Anthropology, Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs, Department of Psychology, or the Department of Sociology and who are on track to complete their degree in 2026 (spring, summer, or fall).

Required Materials

All nomination packets must include the following materials:

  • Nominee’s Curriculum Vitae
  • Expected Date of Graduation
  • Expected Degree
  • Nomination Letter (Limit of one page)

A broad description of why the nominee is deserving of the award. Cite specific examples of relevant accomplishments, publications, and recognition. Focus on the impact of the nominee’s work within the discipline, across the institution, in external communities, and/or on fellow students as appropriate. Include professional development, interdisciplinary research, and outreach activity.
