Dale Dibble grew up in the Methow Valley near Winthrop, WA. Both he and his future wife, Olive Mae, graduated from Winthrop High School in 1939. Now the high school is consolidated and called Liberty Bell High School, encompassing most of Methow Valley. After graduating from Winthrop High School Dale enrolled at Washington State College in 1939. World War II interrupted Dale’s college career however, and he was sent to California where he finished his degree in Meteorology going on to serve as a P-38 pilot. Upon transferring his credits from Cal. Tech. back to Washington State College after the war, he was given full credit and a B.S. degree from WSC for which he was very grateful.
The Dibbles have established the “Liberty Bell High School Scholarship Awards” which is intended to provide the sum of $5,000 on an annual basis for the purpose of providing scholarships to graduates of Liberty bell High School who attend Washington State University.
