Life isn’t an either/or proposition.

We have biology students who play the piano, a statistics professor who writes poetry, study abroad options for a week or a year, field researchers who climb mountains, PhD candidates who are parents and caregivers, alumni business leaders with degrees in psychology, history, general studies, English, and more—the list goes on and on.

Ampersand

(ăm′pər-sănd)

  • The character or sign representing the word and.
  • An unusual feature of the English language which denotes things that go together.
  • The symbol can be traced back to the 1st century A.D. and the old Roman cursive, in which the letters E and T occasionally were written together to form a ligature.
  • The word itself is a shortened version of the phrase “and per se and” used in the early days of the Roman Empire.
