Ryan W. Booth, doctoral candidate, history, was chosen from among 220 applicants to receive the Susan Kelly Power and Helen Hornbeck Tanner Fellowship and residency from the Newberry Library in Chicago for his project “Crossed Arrows: The US Indian Scouts, 1866-1947.”

Sue Peabody, professor, history, WSU Vancouver, was selected for an eight-week residency in Cassis, France, as a fellow at the Camargo Foundation to work on her creative nonfiction project, The Failure of the Succès: Anatomy of a Slave Smuggling Voyage. She will later travel to Paris and London for archival research and to Réunion Island for an exhibit opening at the Musée historique de Villèle dedicated to the subject of her previous book, Madeleine’s Children: Family, Freedom, Secrets, and Lies in France’s Indian Ocean Colonies (Oxford University Press, 2017), coinciding with the book’s release in French.

Thabiti Lewis, associate professor, English, WSU Vancouver, was awarded the 2019 Black Metropolis Research Consortium Short-term Fellowship to complete his book on Chicago’s role in shaping the Black Arts Movement. Lewis also was appointed interim associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at WSU Vancouver for AY 2019-20.

Eric Dexter, doctoral candidate, environment, WSU Vancouver, was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie post-doctoral research fellowship by the European Commission.

Amy Nusbam, graduate student, psychology, was named a fellow for the Yale Ciencia Academy for Career Development by Ciencia Puerto Rico in collaboration with Yale University.

Nichole Fournier, doctoral candidate, anthropology, received a Wenner Gren Foundation Dissertation Fieldwork fellowship grant.

Marina Tolmacheva, professor emerita, history, received a Fulbright Fellowship to teach in Almaty, Kazakhstan, hosted by KIMEP University. She is also teaching a master’s level course on Eurasian history at Al-Farabi National University in Almaty. She will present a paper in a panel titled “The Indian Ocean without Borders” at the Annual Meeting of the Middle East Studies Association in San Antonio, Texas.
