Melanie-Angela Neuilly (Wolf), professor and chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, recently published new research in the International Journal of Legal Medicine about the implications of the 2017 change in the French death certificate for the accuracy of mortality statistics worldwide. Her analysis revealed that the more specific instructions provided through the changes to the French death certificate led to improved mortality statistics, providing support for the hypothesis that greater training increases the quality of mortality statistics.
This research on the impact of medicolegal practices on French mortality statistics was supported by Dr. Neuilly’s 2024 HF Guggenheim Distinguished Scholar. Read the journal article at the International Journal of Legal Medicine.
