Faculty Comments

Katie is a fine young historian with an eye for promising research. She understands well the importance of a compelling, well-evidenced thesis. She also was able to perform the difficult balance of source and scholarship criticism within her larger argumentative research.

She is the kind of history student you want to mentor as a professor because she learns from her mistakes and works hard to carve her own path. Nikolaus Overtoom

Katie is one of most accomplished and intellectually inquisitive students that I have had in my undergraduate courses. She constantly was asking questions, contributing to discussions, and helping other students. In addition to her academic abilities, Katie is a friendly, kind, and very funny person. Robert McCoy

Personal Statement

I am extremely grateful to have been supported by my family and friends throughout my undergraduate studies. I am also really thankful that they are always willing to proofread my papers and sit through my many, many mini-history lessons. Having their encouragement and company has made online learning immeasurably more enjoyable. Attending WSU has allowed me to foster my passion for learning and history, while being a Coug has allowed to me experience having a family on a scale that I would have told you was impossible. My love for the Cougs knows no bounds and I will never take a “Go Cougs” for granted. My goal for the future is to inspire this same pride in education and learning in future high school students.

Future Plans

She will graduate in December and plans to substitute teach on Washington’s West Side. After that she will enroll in the master’s in teaching program and plans to return to the West Side to teach history.
